The Responder Cell detects and responds to the presence of a small molecule by emitting a chemical signal into the environment, demonstrating simple sensing and response logic and cell-cell signaling.

aTc IV-HSL Responder Cell

The aTc IV-HSL Responder Cell produces IV-HSL, an acyl-homoserine lactone, in response to detection of aTc. E. coli in co-culture detect IV-HSL and produce a fluorescent signal.
